In the formative years of Grand Prix Motor Racing. a Fangio and Ascari or a Clark could climb into anything with round wheels and run off with the world Championship. That era, not coincidentally, came to an end at about the same time that Man went to the moon. The same technology - sophisticated engineering, exotic materials, enormous power, advanced aerodynamics - that gave Man the means to overcome the limits of the Earth afforded him equality while racing around it. The 1970's were the most transitional decade since the inception of Formula One, opening with drivers who became champions in different cars, closing with cars that could win with any driver. It was the age of Jackie Stewart, Emerson Fittipaldi, Niki Lauda, Ferrari, Lotus, McLaren. The most turbulent, most transitional decade in auto-racing history is portrayed in this film…a fitting coda to the 'Seventies and introduction to the 'Eighties.
