TWO ROCK SUPERSTARS PLAY OUT STORMY, STAR-CROSSED ROMANCE
John Norman Howard is on top of the rock world. He sells out auditoriums and packs festivals...but he's falling apart. "Where to?" asks the driver. "Back about ten years," he answers. Esther Hoffman is an undiscovered singer working small clubs. Her star is about to begin its rise; her life, about to change forever.
A Star is Born updates the classic Hollywood story of success and failure, exhilaration and despair. This third film version of the original story by William Wellman and Robert Carson takes place against the high-pressure background of big-time rock and roll. Barbara Streisand and Kris Kristofferson play the two lovers whose paths intersect but cannot run parallel. For him, it's too late to start over. For her it's too early to slow down. Both on stage and backstage, the personalities of Streisand and Kristofferson dominate. As surely as Judy Garland James Mason did in 1954 A Star is Born, Streisand and Kristofferson make this new version their own.
