On the eve of his retirement, a hard-bitten precinct police captain in New York's Harlem faces a shootout that may be his last. Three ruthless toughs have stolen the numbers take of a local syndicate, killing serveral cops in so doing. His job is to track them down before the syndicate does - and a gang war results that could tear the town apart.
A cross 110th Street is a razorsharp, ultraviolent tale filmed all over Manhattan and burstng with the supercharged energy of urban street life. The authentic location feel is enhanced by performances rngng with truth. Two time Academy Award winner Anthony Qunn (who also served as one of the films executive producers) brings a world-weary grit to the role of Captain Mattelli, and he is matched every step of the way by Yaphet Kotto (Report to the Commissioner, Alien) as his detective sidekick and Anthony Franciosa, television hero of The Name of the Game, who plays a racketeer with ruthless ferocity.
Director Barry Shear, whose debut effort Wild in the Streets has earned a cult following worldwide, turns New York into a battleground where only the quickest wits and most explosive firepower can survive. In the same league as urban classics like The Naked City, Bullitt, The French Connection, Across 110th Street sweeps into a no-man's land of vice and corruption for unparalleled screen excitement.
