BELA LUGOSI and BORIS KARLOF star in this chiling double feature based on the stories of EDGAR ALLEN POE which captures the essence of Horror films of the 1930's. Produced during the horror film's golden age of Universal Studios, the moody, atmospheric features are filled with fog shrouded streets, slightly mad protagonists and eerie situations that typified the genre.
THE BLACK CAT features KARLOFF as Herr Poelzig who is engaged in a death feud wth the equally strange Dr. Werdegast (LUGOSI). In Austria, Poelzig kidnaps a pair of young American honeymooners and holds them captive. The Climax involves mummies, brides in glass coffins, balck cat's, corpses etc.
THE RAVEN has Dr. Vollin (LUGOSI), a noted plastic surgeon, obsessed by the works of EDGAR ALLAN POE, creating an elaborate torture chamber (complete with pit and pendulum!). When rejected by the girl he loves, Vollin blackmails a notorious disfigured killer (KARLOFF) into murdering her.
