CHISUM WASN'T ALONE IN DEFENDING HIS RANCH _ HE HAD PAT GARRETT & BILLY THE KID The time is 1878; the place, the sprawling New Mexico ranch of John Simpson Chisum, "King of the Pesco's, who in a decade, has carved a giant cattle empire out of the land. Chisum is expecting his pretty niece Sally. While he and his sidekick, Pepper, wait for the stagecoach, a group of Mexican rustlers raid his horses. Several of his men are killed. In the town, Chisum meets the crafty Lawrence Murphy who is trying to dominate the land, foreclosing farm mortgages, refusing to honour water rights and bribing public officials. He is determined to get Chisum's ranch.
