Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard at their incompetent best in three brilliantly funny shows from this-all-time classic series, starring Captain Mainwaring and his intrepid platoon.
THE DAY THE BALLOON WENT UP
The sight of verger swinging, like a pendulum, outside the Church tower is only the beginning of the Warmington-on-Sea Home Guard's problems. A stray barrage balloon has to be brought down to earth-a task which inevitably falls to Captain Mainwaring's fearless team. And as the Captain himself reluctantly takes off on an aerial sightseeing tour of the English countryside, we are treated to Lance Corporal Jones; immortal cry - "Don't panic, Mr Mainwaring!"
SONS OF THE SEA
"I've had an idea," says Mainwaring, and the look of despair on Wilson's face says it all. "River Patrols! Half a dozen men, armed to the teeth with a boat. They could play havoc with the Nazis..." Unfortunately, the only havoc they cause is to themselves, as practice session on the local river ends with them drifting helplessly in the English Channel...
DON'T FORGET THE DIVER
A major exercise pits Captain Mainwaring's men against a rival platoon from a neighbouring town. Lance Corporal Jones disguised as a floating log; Private Frazer in a diving suit; sheep wearing tin hats. All rather biizarre - yet hilariously familiar - as the Warmington-on-Sea Home Guard attempts a daring manoeuvre that doesn't quite go according to plan.
