Dance With A Stranger' chronicles the doomed love affair between Ruth Ellis, an [sic] hostess in a seedy nightclub, and David Blakely, a dissolute aristocrat. Separated, with custody of her son Andy, Ruth dreams of a life away from the nightclub and Blakely seems able to provide it. But Blakely is shiftless, and cannot commit himself to just one woman - a truth Ruth cannot bear. One cold night she guns him down outside a London pub, loving him even as she pulls the trigger. Ruth Ellis was found guilty and sentenced to death. In 1955 she was hanged in Holloway prison, the last woman to be executed in Britain.
