Johnny Cash had been to jail before-as a convict. But he went to California's notorious San Quentin Prison as a world-famous entertainer-to give a concert for the inmates. Granada went too-and recorded this extraordinary event.

Cash wrote the song "San Quentin" the night before the concert-it is raptursoulsy received by the prison auidence.

Granada filmed the concert-and a picture of life in the jail as the prisoners themselves describe it.
