Brilliant adaptation of Irving Stone's biography of Vincent Van Gogh, vivdly portraying the painter's anguished life. Kirk Douglas was nominated for an Academy Awards for his epic performance, while Anthony Quinn as Gauguin was named Best Supporting Actor.
Douglas recreates a man whose genius is marred by epilepsy and madness - a thoughtful and affecting portrait of the mind of the artist. The film is directed by Vincente Minnelli (Gigi, Father of the Bride, The Bad and The Beautiful, An American In Paris) who created many of MGM's greatest films of the forties and fifties.
