Matewan

The year 1920, the place Matewan, West Virginia...When good met evil, violence was inevitable. Matewan was the mining town in Mingo County, owned and operated by the coal company, where savagery and cruelty were the norm and the men were treated and replaced like equipment. Help arrived in the shape of a young union organiser Joe Kenehan (Chris Cooper) and a group of black miners led by 'Few Clothes' Johnson (James Earl Jones). However, as the miners begin to get organised, the company sent in their gun-thugs to surpress the insurrection. As good met evil, violence was inevitable, but it's not everytime it ends in a bloody massacre. A bloody war began in Mingo County, a war on those that left deep emotional scares on those who lived to tell of the horrors of the Matewan Massacre. ©1987 Cinecom Entertainment Group.
