SOME SAY HE'S A MIRACLE MAN. SOME SAY HE'S A FRAUD.
YOU ARE ABOUT TO MEET A MOST UNUSUAL YOUNG MAN.
Theopilis North (Anthony Edwards) has arrived in the decadent extravagent world of 1920's Newport in search of adventure. In a community of masters and servants, North's forthright happy-go-lucky nature allows him to befriend people from all walks of life. He persuades crusty old tycoon Mr. Bosworth (Robert Mitchum) to defy his pompous daughter (Tammy Grimes) who kept him housebound for years.
He "cures" debutante Elizabeth Steel (Mary Stuart Masterson) of blinding migraines. He then covinces housemaid Sally (Virginia Madsen) that she is worthy of her aristocratic lover. And all with the sound approval of the two sages of Henry (Harry Dean Stanton) and Amelia Cranston (Luaren Bacall).
By the end of the summer Mr. North is invited to the ball of the season. Aglow with excitement and self-confidence he waltzes off into the moonlight with society beauty Persis (Angelica Huston). Rascal? Romantic? Rogue? Whatever he is, he's a most unsual young man...
