A very special atmosphere prevaded the Royal Albert Hall, London on 27th October 1964: the occasion was a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony conducted by Otto Klemperer on the opening night of the New Philharmonia Orchestra and Chorus's first London session. This was the very first time that Dr. Klemperer had agreed that a concert conducted by him could be televised, resulting in the opportunity for future generations to enjoy the sight and sound of that memorable occassion.
