His eyes light up every time they look at you."
"I know. Oh Ross. I...
"You have a wonderful common sense Demelza.
I rely on that."
Now Ross has returned safely from warring France with the rescued Dr Enys and one Hugh Armitage both Demelza and Caroline have great cause for celebration. But is all as it seems? What terrible effect will Dwight's brutal captivity have upon his health and his capacity for love? Can life ever be the same again for him and Caroline? And just what are the motives behind Hugh Armitage's kind attentions towards Demelza? Or hers towards him?
Meanwhile, Elizabeth's cousin Morwenna suffers in her unhappy arranged marriage to the pompous Reverend Osborne (Christopher Biggins), pining for the love of Demelza's brother Drake. Only the arrival of her younger sister Rowella will lift her depression. And it will certainly please her amourous husband...
And what of George Warleggan? Not even his impending political success can console him. At least when Aunt Agatha is gone there'll be no Poldark in the house to open old wounds. Or will there? For the old lady is about to fan the flames again, delivering her very own prophecy of doom as she casts a shadow of doubt over the paternity of his beloved Valentine....
