People from all over the world flock every year to Edinburgh to watch the famous Edinburgh Military Tattoo. In this BBC Videobook are the best moments from five tattoos (1975-1980). This splendid selection, with original commentary by Tom Fleming, is a fitting tribute to this colourful, exciting ceremony. At dusk the wide sloping esplanade of Edinburgh Castle, illuminated by a hundred floodlights, provides the superbly dramatic setting for the Tattoo. Troops march and countermarch with dazzling precision, to the inspiring music of massed military bands. And there is more, much more... from the breath-taking display of gymnastic finesse and timing of the Junior Leaders Regiment, Royal Artillery the delightful antics of the Golden Lions of Hong Kong. The Berlin Brigade of the U.S. Army depends on split-second timing with perfect concentration in a close ordered bayonet drill. And then there is the Big Brown Music Machine from California who provide a dixieland jazzband alternative to the impressive Batterie-Fanfare de Ia Garde Républicaine de Paris. These are just a few of the events which have been included in this celebration of the tremendous diversity of military skills. They add an international flavour to what is essentially a Scottish occasion.
