Smashie & Nicey

On the 22nd of November 1993, an event was to happen that was of Earth shattering proportions that it was to quite literally shatter the Earth to its very proportions. On that historical-type day, Smashie & Nicey parted company for the last time with FAB FM. "We were absolutely flabbergahsted at being resigned" says Smashie, "In fact never had our flabber been so Frankie Howerdly-ghasted". A tragedy such as this cannot pass unnoticed. This special video bears witness to this fact, as we visit Samashie at his Funny Farmstead in Frenchamwood and Nicey at his Mad Mansion in Minchumphampton, for their reflections on their dazzling career. But how did it all start for them? NICEY: "I started in the 60's as a TV presenter of a Pop 'n Youth type prog - like 'The Word' only better". We see him present Blue Peter with Valerie Singleton and dancing with Freddie and the Deamers. SMASHIE: "Mike Smash wasn't a DJ at first, but one of the greatest thespians of our time, in a bit-part-mungus type way". We see him fluffing his lines on Dixon of Dock Green, Z-Cars and Doctor Who. We follow their lives from the heady haywire heydays on the high seas at Pirate Radio Geraldine, through the historic launch of National Radio Fab in 1967. NICEY: "We were the founding fathers of Radio Fab, along with Jimmy Old, Dave Dee Crepid, (The Hairy Sandwich) and all t'others. Of course only one of the original line up is left now - the punky-type, late evening slot oddball John Past-Bedtime. In rare historical moments... We see them presenting Top of The Pops and of course, Nicey's legendary Depford Draylons commercials in the 70's. We remember the tragic breakup of Smashie's marriage to Tessa Smash. "I went Men-In-White-Coat-Mungously For-Gods-Sake-Get-The-Elephant-Tranquilizer Tessatrociously Mad" confesses Smashie. We see a clip from 'The Dave Nice Video Show' and remember his hilarious characters like the punk Fred Flem & Chinky the Chinaman. We see Smashie's Saturday Evening TV show "Smashie's Saturday Smiles" set in his house at Hairy Cleft in Looneyshire. - ALL THIS AND LOTS MORE!! © BBC
