The most tragic love story of all time. When hideously defromed hunchback Quasimodo (Anthony Hopkins) falls in love with beautiful gypsy girl Esmeralda (Lesley-Anne Down), tragedy is bound to follow. Both outcasts of Paris society, Quassimodo kidnaps the girl and holds her prisoner in the bell tower of Notre Dame Cathedral. Revulsion turns to sympathy when the evil cathedral arch deacon Dom Claude (Derek Jacobi) in a fit of jealousy orders the military to storm the tower. Heartache and death is inevitable.
