PEKING 1908. A three year old boy becomes Emperor of China. His name is Pu Yi. Only three yrs later China becomes a republic. The Qing dynasty is forced to abdicate and more than 3,000 years of imperial rule come to an end. As Pu Yin grows up, he's still treated as a god. But at the age of 18 he's expelled from the Forbidden City by a republican warlord. Aided by his friend and tutor (Peter O' Toole) he escapes and flees to the Japanese Legation. After living the life of a playboy, he is invited by the Japanese to be Emperor of Manchuria. Pu Yi remains in this position until captured by the Russians and handed over to the Chinese People's Republic, when he's jailed for 10yrs. The story of China's last Emperor is a tale of intrigue, treachery, war and national disaster. It is also the personal history of one of the most extrordinary anti-heroes of modern times. © Columbia Pictures
