Hammer Horror meets Martial Arts mayhem in this scary and suspenseful shocker in which, noted the Daily Express, "Bodies are soon hurtling across the screen in a ballet of blood". The fascinating setting is 19th century China where the disciples of the evil Count Dracula are mounting a bloody reign of terror against the inhabitants of a remote village. Peter Cushing, in his classic role as the famed vampire-hunter Professor Van Helsing, faces his most terrifying battle against the forces of darkness when he agrees to lead an expedition to the village to wipe out the deadly plague, accompanied by wealthy widow Julie Ege and a family of Chinese Martial Arts experts. The intrepid travellers are plunged into an escalating nightmare of horror as they are attacked by legions of bats that turn into sword-wielding vampires and a force of grisly zombies. The film brilliantly succeeds in combining the traditions of the great horror movies with some of the most blazing Martial Arts action ever put on film and, said the Daily Mirror, "Kung Fu addicts and horror followers, I am sure, will have a lovely time". Made in Hong Kong, the film is tautly and excitingly directed by expert Ray Ward Baker, maker of such terror classics as The Vampire Lovers, Scars of Dracula and Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde.
