Based on actual news accounts, "The Longest Night" opens with the horrific abduction of Karen's mother Norma (PHYLLIS THAXTER), bound and gagged, watches helplessly. The kidnappers, John Danbry (JAMES FARENTINO) and Ellen Gunther (SKYE AUBERY), have concocted a terrifying method of concealing Karen, they bury her in a coffin with a home-made life support system. The ransom is paid by Karen's father, Alan Chambers (DAVID JANSSEN), but the accidental appearance of the police causes Danbry to flee while Karen's life support system begins to collapse.
