Marcellus supervises the execution of a Man calling himself the 'Son of God.' He wins the Robe worn by Jesus in a dice game, and is haunted by guilty memories. Ordered to destroy the Robe, Marcellus becomes a convert to Christianity. He falls into the hands of the cruel Pagan Emperor Caligula (Jay Robinson), is found gulity of treason and is condemned to death.
Princess Diana (Jean Simmons), the women he loves, gives the Robe to a Christian slave as she shares her fate with Marcellus.
