The Satanic Rites of Dracula

In Don Houghton's gripping screenplay, Dracula is alive and well and living in London, posing as a millionaire industrialist while he schemes to wipe out mankind with a deadly plague virus. Dracula is played for the eighth (and final) time by Christopher Lee, the screen's greatest vampire count. He is, noted the Daily Mirror, "Devilishly convincing" in a performance that is superbly scary and sinister and also brings out the character's sexual attraction. He is magnificently matched by Peter Cushing who plays dedicated vampire-hunter Professor Van Helsing. Their battles for supremacy are packed with chills and thrills and the climactic death of Dracula is a brilliant mixture of suspense and special effects. Alan Gibson directs the horrific goings-on with a diabolical skill and the top-notch cast includes Joanna Lumley (future star of The New Avengers), William Franklyn, Freddie Jones and Michael Coles.
